| The Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route passed through the historic district
of Chester City. The grand marshal, Carl Closs, depicted George Washington, Ralph Archbold portrayed
Ben Franklin and John Welsh of Portland, Oregon, portrayed Comte de Rochambeau and represented the French Government.
The parade was reviewed at Chester City Hall and then crossed to the Old Swedes Cemetery to lay a wreath on the grave
of John Morton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Other units in the parade were the Color Guard of the
Philadelphia-Continental Chapter of the SAR, the Old Barracks Fife and Drum Corps from Trenton, the 2nd PA Regiment of
1777 from Valley Forge, Ben Franklin's Fife and Drums from Philadelphia, and others. Also seen are from the America
March to Yorktown, a group who walked the entire route of the proposed W3R National Historical Trail in 2006. Viewing
the parade are many members and volunteers of the Delaware County Historical Society. |
